Build Diary - August 2003
Collecting the kit
The chassis will be ready for me to collect at the end of this month - just a little excited now....! Before I go to collect it though I need to remove the propshaft, front uprights, steering column and steering rack from the donor so MK can modify them to suit the Indy.
  • The propshaft needs shortening to suit the smaller Indy chassis.
  • The front uprights need the bottom ball joint taper hole machining to suit Austin Maxi ball joints.
  • The steering column lower shaft needs to be extended to suit the longer distance between driver and steering rack.
  • The steering rack needs to be narrowed so the track rod pivots line up with the lower wishbone pivots to prevent bumpsteer.
  • The track rods need extending to compensate for the narrowed steering rack.

Collecting the kit from MK
Finally it's August the 29th (Friday) and time to make the trip from Winchester to Langold (oop north) to MK's workshop to pick up the kit. It seems like a very, very long time ago that I ordered the kit back in June. A quick phone call to MK to check everything would be ready, donor parts packed, packed lunch packed and I'm in the van headed north.

When I got to MK's workshop the chassis was ready and waiting the guys loaded it straight onto the van while I hopped around grinning like kid at christmas. They then started on modifying my donor parts (see photos above). While I was waiting for the parts to be modified I had a look over their new Indy demonstrator and the awesome GT1 track car.

Once my donor parts were finished and everything was on the van it was time to hand over my hard earned and head for home. I have to commend Martin and the guys a MK who are very friendly and enthusiastic about what they're doing, which I found very refreshing and encouraging.
