Build Diary - October 2003
Fitting the suspension and steering With the floor fitted the next thing to is fit some of the transmission and suspension components to the chassis. First up is the differential unit, which has had a quick clean and some new oil seals fitted. This bolts directly to the chassis using the long bolts retrieved from the Sierra. Next are the rear suspension wishbones and hub carriers, which I had already painted and fitted with suspension bushes. I don't have the shock absorbers yet, so I cut some steel tube to length and made dummy shocks to hold the suspension in place for now. Front suspension, hubs and steering rack are the next bits to be fitted. These have also been painted and fitted with bushes and ball joints. Engine examination I decided to start stripping the engine down to see what sort of condition it is in inside. Knowing the history of the engine I wasn't expecting it to be too good, but you can always hope! I started by removing all the ancillaries and manifolds - no seized nuts and bolts which was nice! As the photos show it is in a pretty poor state.
